1. Wait to travel at least 1 day after LASIK surgery.
This gives you enough time to recover from early discomfort. You will typically have a critical follow-up appointment the day after your surgery with your doctor too. They can give you clearance to fly after.
2. Keep your eyes lubricated during the trip.
Low humidity in aircraft cabins can lead to discomfort for LASIK patients, especially with dry eyes being a common side effect of the procedure. Follow the instructions of your doctor with regards to the use of eye drops. All patients will be prescribed lubricant eye drops and some may require eye gel and other eye drops.
3. Wear sunglasses in the daytime and under bright lights.
This can ease photosensitivity symptoms.
4. Protect your head from water.
Bring an umbrella, hooded coat, and whatever else you need to avoid water getting into your eyes. You can swim with goggles on 2 weeks after the procedure.
